Running has transcended sport—it’s a lifestyle, a meditation, a rebellion against inertia. Motive is a new, independent running brand born from the streets and trails of Naarm/Melbourne. Designed for those who find meaning in movement, Motive champions purpose-led motion—whether it’s chasing a personal best or clearing the mind before sunrise.
Positioned between streetwear and performance, the brand identity strikes a balance between utility and expression. Influenced by creative subcultures that intersect with athleticism, the design system is both functional and emotive—purposeful in tone, but not overly competitive. The brand’s voice is considered and confident, merging technical detail with emotional resonance to shift the narrative from performance to purpose. Motive speaks to those who run with intent, not ego.
The identity comprises a bold, modern wordmark and a stylised monogram ‘m’—an abstract form that mirrors the movement of running while referencing GPS routes from popular tracking platforms. The use of 3D and motion introduces a kinetic dimension, enhancing visual impact across digital spaces. A metallic render finish gives the brand a technical edge, aligning it with high-performance yet boutique aesthetics.
Art direction centres on minimalism and clarity. Imagery takes precedence, supported by negative space, clean composition, and subtle typographic detail. Visual treatments like motion blur and grain evoke energy, grit, and effort, while the blend of static and kinetic poses creates contrast and interest. A monochrome palette amplifies impact and challenges the vibrancy of typical performance branding—reinforcing Motive’s focus on intention, clarity, and design with meaning.
